Pokémon IV & stat laboratory

See straight through your Pokémon's stats.

IVXray reads the hidden numbers behind every Pokémon: exact IV checking from summary-screen stats, stat projection at any level, judge-phrase translation and Hidden Power solving - for every main-series game from Gen 3 to Gen 9.

Instruments

Four precision tools

Also on the bench: a searchable base-stat Pokédex for all 1,025 species.

Why IVXray

Built like an instrument, not a form

Private by construction

No accounts, no uploads, no server round-trips - the whole Pokédex is baked into the page and every solve happens in your browser.

Exact, sourced math

The Gen 3–9 stat formula, 25-nature table, judge tiers and Hidden Power bit math are implemented literally and unit-tested against documented worked examples.

Solves the awkward cases

Ambiguous ranges explained, characteristic tie-breaks respected, Shedinja's HP handled, and reverse Hidden Power breeding targets computed for you.

Method

A thirty-second IV scan

Read the specimen

Open the summary screen. Note the level, the nature, and the six stat numbers. If the judge function is unlocked, its phrases help; if a characteristic is visible ("Likes to run…"), grab it too.

Feed the instrument

Enter species, level, nature and stats into the IV Calculator. Add EVs if the Pokémon is trained, judge tiers and the characteristic if you have them.

Read the scan

Each stat shows its exact IV or candidate range on a 0–31 ruler, plus how many spreads remain. Higher levels and judge data collapse ranges to a single number.

Questions

IV checking, answered

How do I know my IVs without the judge function?
Open the in-game summary screen and note your Pokémon's level and six stats, plus its nature (shown on the status page). Enter the species, level, nature and those stat numbers into the IV Calculator - it runs every IV 0–31 through the exact game formula and shows which values reproduce your stats. At level 50 this is usually exact; at level 100 it always is.
Why does the calculator show multiple possible IVs?
The game floors (rounds down) every stat calculation, so at low levels several different IVs can produce the exact same stat number. A level-10 Pokémon might show identical stats for IVs 0–9. The calculator shows the full candidate range; re-checking the same Pokémon at a higher level (level 50+) or adding judge phrases narrows it to a single value.
What are IVs (individual values)?
IVs are hidden genes fixed when a Pokémon is caught, hatched or received - one per stat, each ranging 0–31. They add directly to the stat formula, so a 31-IV ("perfect") stat is the goal for competitive breeding. IVs never change through training (Hyper Training only boosts the effective stat; see below).
What IV spread is "good"?
For competitive play you typically want the attacking stat, Speed and HP at 31, with the unused attacking stat low - nature and EVs matter just as much. Breeders call a Pokémon "5IV" when the five stats it uses are 31. In-game judges confirm it: "Best" means exactly 31, "Fantastic" means 30.
Does Hyper Training change IVs?
No. Hyper Training (Gen 7+) raises a level-100 Pokémon's effective stat to behave like 31, but the underlying IV is unchanged - it is still passed down as-is when breeding, and it still determines Hidden Power's type. Bottle caps are a battle-ready patch, not a genetic fix.
Which games does IVXray support?
Every main-series game from Ruby & Sapphire (2002) through Scarlet & Violet - the stat and IV formulas are identical across Gen 3–9. Gen 1–2 games use a different system (DVs, 0–15) and are not supported. Hidden Power calculators apply to Gen 3–7 only, since the move was cut from Gen 8 onward.
Is IVXray free? Where does the data come from?
Completely free, no account, and every calculation runs locally in your browser - nothing you type is sent anywhere. Base stats for all 1,025 species are baked in from PokéAPI (snapshot 2026-10-11), and formulas are cross-checked against Bulbapedia. IVXray is a fan tool and is not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak or The Pokémon Company.
